Autumn at Abernant

Autumn at Abernant

After such a beautiful summer it can feel pretty dismal facing the prospect of a cold damp winter but the precursor to winter is autumn and just WHAT an autumn it has been.
The weather has been mild and as we drift into November we are still surrounded by the most beautiful display of colour in the trees.

Abernant is surrounded by woodland and looks across the Wye Valley towards Aberedw Rocks and each walk and view is a golden, orange, red, russet and ochre joy. The leaves are still on the trees but beginning to tumble in pretty drifts of crunchy leaves which leave carpets of deep gold.
In the garden we are blessed to have some very fine specimen trees which are stunning in all their autumnal glory. The acers astound me with their glowing red foliage and our beautiful copper beech shines with deep rusty gold leaves.

Having time to sit or wander and enjoy the garden is one of the joys of working at Abernant but as guests you, too, could enjoy this wondrous splendour.
We do still have some late availability dates in November and December  so please do get in touch.

Enjoy the Indian Summer and Explore the Wye Valley from Abernant House

The tourism industry recently predicted an Indian Summer and the UK certainly seems to be enjoying unseasonably warm and dry weather. Why not take advantage of this and book an autumnal break, to discover the Wye Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the surrounding areas.

Also, it is the Welsh Year of Adventure and Abernant House is the perfect self-catering accommodation to base yourself in, while you step outside your normal life and do something wonderful!

The Wye Valley offers spectacular landscapes and nature trails, with ravine gorges cloaked in woodland, through meadows and orchards, to rugged and remote uplands. There is plenty of fishing for anglers and the Valley offers walking and cycling holidays too. For thrill-seekers there are challenging activities such as rock climbing, paddle-boarding and white water rafting, all on the doorstep of Abernant House.

However, if mooching around traditional shops, trying out arts and crafts, or enjoying excellent restaurants is more your thing then the local towns and hamlets have everything you could wish for.

At the end of a day’s exploring, adventuring and enjoying yourself in the fresh air, you can return to Abernant House to relax in elegant yet cosy accommodation. Up to 15 people can spread out in Abernant’s 7 bedrooms, 3 sitting rooms and large garden.  There is a well-equipped kitchen for those who like to whip up a culinary masterpiece. And there is a formal dining room – and 5-star chef available – if you want to celebrate in style. Above all, Abernant House is a beautiful place to create memories.

Planning an Autumn Getaway? Try Abernant House for Cosy Country House Accommodation

A great British summer, with plenty of long, hot days, has seen numerous guests enjoying the beautiful outdoor life available at Abernant House. Whether relaxing in our glorious mature gardens, complete with a swing and stone barbecue, or pottering down to the private stone beach with access to the River Wye, our clients have relished the hot weather external delights that Abernant House has to offer.

The House is situated in the picturesque Wye Valley, with The Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir, Powis Castle and Garden, and Lake Vyrnwy all on the doorstep. Its location is spectacular, but the views and surrounding attractions aren’t all that makes Abernant House such a delight. Built in the 18th Century, the House offers the discerning guest a place to stay with character, elegance and a taste of the intriguing history of its owners (the owner’s grandfather was Sir Harold Caccia, an Ambassador in China, Vienna and the USA during the 1960’s).

Maybe you are a group of friends whose children have grown up and you are no longer tied to the school holiday timetable. Or perhaps there is a special family celebration coming up and you are looking for the perfect venue – somewhere unique and beautiful, yet cosy and accommodating. Abernant House has an abundance of features plus the flexibility to make any holiday or celebration a huge success.

Furthermore, as we look towards the autumn, our luxurious country home still has so much to offer. When the temperature of the days starts to cool, its time to dig out that cosy knitwear and embrace the outdoors. As the colours change and the leaves start to fall, the Wye Valley (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is ideal for long walks or even something more challenging! Get outside, get active and explore what adventurous activities mid-Wales has to offer!

However, if mooching around traditional shops, trying out arts and crafts, or enjoying excellent restaurants is more your thing then the local towns and hamlets have everything you could wish for.

After you’ve had a great day out (and built up an appetite!) Abernant House will be waiting to welcome you. At the centre of the house the large, modern kitchen/dining room is warm and inviting, and well-equipped with an enormous oak table, 4 oven Aga, huge fridge/freezer and integrated wine cooler. There is also a separate formal dining room decorated with stunning, vibrant hand-painted 18th century Chinese wallpaper. Our 5-star chef can be booked to rustle up a delicious dinner to remember!

Finally, the House also has a wood-panelled TV room and a beautifully-proportioned Drawing Room – lovely rooms in which to unwind. With plenty of comfortable sofas, a grand piano and roaring log fires, these really are the perfect rooms to relax in. Settle down with a glass of wine to enjoy board games and songs around the piano.
Our spacious, flexible, private accommodation means that you can come to Abernant confident that your time here will be a tremendous success! Email Jo on info@abernanthouse.com or call on 07715 656270. For further details, visit: http://www.abernanthouse.com/hen-parties-at-abernant.html
